Frequently Asked Website Questions

Building a website can seem bewildering and intimidating. Below are the most commonly asked questions:

How much will my website cost?
Determining the cost of your site depends on answers to these questions:

A good way to start the process is with a free consultation. Let’s meet over a cup of coffee and discuss your needs and goals. After listening, I’ll prepare an estimate based on your answers to the questions above.

If cost is a major concern, a great way to reduce cost is to be prepared by doing the following:

The ultimate cost of a site can be cut in half if you’re prepared and have a clear idea of what you want.

That said, if your time is worth more than $35 per hour, I'd be happy to write the whole site and collect any necessaryimages.

Why should I hire you to do my site?
Building websites is like playing an instrument - everyone knows a few notes, but few can play well. Building a website quickly, efficiently, and to web standards takes years of experience. An amateur will fumble around for days solving technical issues that a pro will solve in minutes. Also, like any skilled trade, building good looking websites often requires specialized authoring, graphic, communication, and video software to complete projects quickly and efficiently. From the esthetic prospective, pros understand the capabilities and limitations specific to web design. This understanding allows pros to build the best looking sites while maintaining the strict web standards that make sites search engine friendly.

Your web presence will probably be the most important weapon in your marketing arsenal. Don’t you want it to look professional? In the first fifteen seconds a visitor will determine if your business is worthy of further consideration. Why take a chance? Your relationship with your designer/webmaster will become as sacred as that of your relationship with your lawyer, account, or doctor.

How long will it take?
The length of time needed to complete your project obviously depends on your business requirements. For a typical site, the short answer is: about two weeks. However, features like optimization require at least an additional week.

I have a website, but I'd like it to look more professional. Can you help?
Yes. Website “facelifts” are a speciality. In addition to design issues, many older sites use old-school “tables” instead of CSS to position design elements. Tables load slowly and may not appear correctly (if at all) on PDAs or “Smart Phones.” Table designed sites are much harder to maintain, modify, and expand.

Can I start with only a few pages and add onto it later?
Yes. In fact, a good site will (and should) constantly change. Just as a roadside marquee will become “invisible” if the content is not frequently changed, a web site will attract much more attention from both visitors and web crawlers if content is dynamic.

Is it possible to change content on my site myself?
Yes, options are available that allow non-technical people to change both site content and articles through any web browser.

Can you secure my URL (www.yourName.com) and host my site?
Yes, I can take care of everything. Give me a call and let’s talk! Click to Email Me!
